Connecting with the mineral industry at PDAC

Written by Jenna McKenzie | Mar 29, 2017 4:51:14 PM

Ronacher McKenzie Geoscience attended the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada’s (PDAC) 2017 Convention, March 5 to 8, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The convention is regarded as the premier international event for the mineral industry, and in recent years attracted attendees from 125 countries. It connects the global mining community for networking, investment opportunities, technical sessions, and short courses.

Our team of seven attendees, participated in the Northern Ontario Mining Showcase, a tradeshow featuring more than 90 businesses. We also attended the session "Future of Mining", organized by the German Mineral Resources Agency in the Federal Institute of Geoscience and Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Canadian German Competence Centre for Mining and Mineral Resources, and McKinsey and Company.

During the tradeshow, we had an opportunity to present our approach to Intelligent Exploration Data Integration. Jenna McKenzie showed an audience of explorers, geologist and geophysicists how we approach the massive amounts of data that exploration produces, by outlining our Roadmap to Exploration Success.

Exploration expenditure does not always translate to discoveries because despite the massive amounts of data, knowledge is often lacking. Our team discussed specific case studies with tradeshow attendees, that show where our data integration resulted in more effective targeting.

Elisabeth Ronacher was part of a panel discussion on “Mentoring and Women in Mining” organized by the PDAC. The panelists included women from a variety of fields within the mining industry, from junior to senior, and from geologists and geophysicists to women in the financial sector, and corporate social responsibility. The panel discussed various challenges that women face in mining, different approaches to mentoring, and a number of other topical questions.

With over 24,000 in attendance, it was generally agreed that the mood was positive, with appetite for exploration spending again.

"The mineral exploration and mining industry is cyclical in nature and has faced a variety of economic challenges over the past several years, but optimism has always remained and it's fantastic to see this being reflected at the PDAC Convention," says PDAC President Glenn Mullan. "There was an upbeat vibe throughout the convention -- a positive sign for the sector going forward." [MarketWired Press Release]

We agree with Glenn, and believe now is the time to look to the future and begin new projects. Make sure you reduce exploration risk and increase the likelihood of discovery by following our Roadmap. Our approach will better integrate your exploration data to achieve effective targeting.

If you were at the PDAC Convention and didn't get a chance to meet with us, or if you weren't able to attend this year, be sure to contact us to find out more about our Roadmap to Exploration Success.
